Since the law changed with Senate Bill 288 in 2023 a lot of individuals can take advantage of the ability to seal their entire criminal records. These are mistakes that good people have made over the years and there is no reason to have them held against them now. Recently I had someone come into my office and hire me to take care of several of these mistakes and mishaps they made in their younger years. With the borders being as tight as they are some of these convictions would not allow them to go in to Canada, a place where she had no problem going for many years prior to now. With jobs, border policies, and even volunteer opportunities coming with background checks and strict protocols, the opportunity to eliminate your criminal record with expungements is so important. Some cases the length of time for an expungement is years, but a sealing can happen sooner. A sealing, while not as intense as an expungement, which is a complete destruction of your case, does "seal" it from public view and most professional background checks. Certain government and high level agencies can still access the records of those convictions, but the benefit is still there. Expungements and Sealings do come with a small court cost attached, but if researched and filed correctly by an Attorney, they are often granted and worth the $50 or $100 cost associated with them. I would advise anyone with eligible offenses to reach out and check with me on how to go about getting those off of your record. If you have any questions about if you are eligible or just want to talk it over, you can always call or email. I do this job to help people, and clearing their past mistakes is a great way to make that happen!
